as of this week sekiranya tiada bad news yang datang maka klse dalam mode nak menaik. dalam minggu ini kenaikan klse telah meningkat 24 mata kepada 874, not bad la tu bagi kegiatan dressing hujung tahun bukan apa ia bersedia bagi menyambut kedatangan duit dari pelabur asb yang dapat 7 persen dividen dan lain lain penyimpan yang akan dapat interest tahunannya dari simpanan mereka.Kedatangan hari raya cina pada bulan jan juga akan diberi alasan kepada rally yang alan datang ini. Tidak kah carta ini meramalkan aktiviti yang akan berlaku.

Dalam ramalan wavelet mode ia juga melakarkan upward movement. sila lihat rajah.
Ramalan ini adalah berasaskan kepada kebanyakan saham saham lain adalah dalam mode yang mula membuat pantulan teknikal kerana semua kounter tersebut dah terlalu terlebih jual oversold. Maka berikan sedikit nafas kepada klse untuk bernafas semula.
Sekiranya dilihat dalam carta klse maka mode 123 dah mula nak menjadi itu sekiranya trafik light memberikan kata izin.Indikator "Ram" dan lain juga menunjuk kepada kenaikan pada leg up ini.Leg up ini akan terjadi kerana semua kounter kounter lain dah mula menunjukan paten yang sama aje.
Alangkah baik nya penulis blog ini nujum pak belalang, kan dapat membantu pelabur kecil untuk meraut sedikit keuntungan.

IOI Shares Plunge On Forex Loss Talk
IOI Corp's share price plunged on panic selling yesterday, on talk that a senior finance executive has resigned to take responsibility for foreign exchange losses incurred by the company. The stock fell 57 sen or 19 per cent to close at RM2.45. The sell-off of about 121 million shares wiped off almost RM3.5 billion of IOI Corp's market capitalization. In its filing to the stock exchange yesterday, IOI Corp said making losses or gains on forward currency contracts is a normal course of events for the company's downstream businesses and they does not speculate on foreign currency moves. Kulim Expects Cert For Palm Oil Ops By Year-End
KULIM Malaysia Bhd says it is on track to receive the coveted Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)
certification by year-end. Managing director Ahamad Mohamad said the certification, which will cover the entire
plantation operations of Kulim as well as New Britain Palm Oil Ltd (NBPOL), is important as it brings worldwide
recognition and potentially confers a sustainability premium on its palm products. Thus far, RSPO certification

Digi Remains Upbeat Despite Hard Times
DiGi.Com Bhd, the country’s third largest mobile operator, is optimistic of remaining competitive despite the
current tough market conditions. DiGi chief executive officer Johan Dennelind said aside from investing in
marketing campaigns, the company would strive to offer the best services to its customers. “Our philosophy is
to invest in our brand and grow our customer base,” while adding that he was “cautiously optimistic” about the
company’s growth potential. DiGi recorded a marginal drop in net profit to RM269.94mil for its third quarter
ended Sept 30 against RM273.28mil in the previous year’s corresponding period. Revenue, however, rose to

Cepatwawasan Sees ROI Of 15% From Bio-Energy Projects
Cepatwawasan Group Bhd expects return on investment (ROI) of about 15% on average for its two bio-energy projects costing RM80mil that would use palm waste to generate electricity. Executive chairman Datuk Mah King Thian said he expected the 3MW biogas plant and 10MW biomass fired plant, which would be built in Sandakan, to contribute about RM20mil annually to group revenue by 2011. Construction on the plants would be tendered out and work was expected to start by mid-2009 and commissioned by 2010. Financing would be from the

SC Probes KNM's Abnormal Intra-Day Trading
HE Securities Commission (SC) has initiated a probe into the abnormal intra-day trading activities of KNM Group Bhd shares. "We are examining the announcements made by the company (KNM) on Bursa Malaysia. If there are any indications of wrongdoing or breaches of securities laws, then appropriate regulatory action will be taken," said SC spokesperson. The company was queried on October 15, following a sharp decrease in price and high volume of its shares. In its reply then, KNM said it was unaware of the cause for the unusual market activity.(Source: BT)

Mahathir: The Worst Is Not Over Yet
TUN Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the leader who steered Malaysia through the 1997-98 Asian financial crisis, said the current global turmoil is far from ending and will soon spread to the region's export-dependent economies. "The worst is not over yet. We do not even understand what is happening," Mahathir, who stepped down as prime minister in 2003, said in a Bloomberg Television interview yesterday in Putrajaya, outside Kuala Lumpur. "Asian countries are going to feel the pinch of a world where the market has collapsed." He reiterated his belief that governments worldwide should consider a new international monetary system that doesn't depend on any single currency.(Source: BT)

PNB: Time To Pick Good Stocks.
THERE are plenty of opportunities to selectively pick good stocks amid the current weak market, said the chief of Malaysia's largest fund manager, Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB). "There is a lot of opportunities because our (economic) fundamentals are still strong. We are not in a financial crisis and if you were to look at our companies, their (financial) results are not that bad," said PNB president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman. He said, however, that Malaysia would not be completely immune to a global slowdown. (Source: BT)

Palm oil slumps to 28-month low
MALAYSIAN crude palm oil futures fell for a third day to the lowest in 28 months as crude oil slumped,
reducing prospects for biofuel demand. Palm oil, used mainly in food, tracks crude oil as analysts consider it
viable for use as a biofuel when oil rises above US$80 a barrel. Crude pared gains in New York amid concerns
that global demand for fuels will slow as the US and European economies may slip into a recession. CPO for
January delivery fell as much as 5.8 per cent to RM1,475 a ton on the Malaysia Derivatives Exchange, the
lowest since June 2006. Prices have more than halved this year as demand lags behind supply. (Source: BT)

Petronas Carigali Awards RM2.8b Jobs
PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, the exploration and production arm of Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), has awarded 15 fabrication contracts worth a combined RM2.8 billion to five local companies. The largest portion, totalling RM1.17 billion, went to Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Sdn Bhd (MMHE), followed by contracts worth RM1.12 billion to Sime Darby Engineering Sdn Bhd and RM288 million to Kencana HL Sdn Bhd. The remaining contracts worth RM140 million and RM102 million were awarded to Ramunia Fabricators Sdn Bhd and Oilfab Sdn Bhd respectively. (Source: BT)

PLUS Submits Proposals For India Highway Jobs
TOLL road operator PLUS Expressways Bhd said it has submitted proposals for toll concessions and highway
construction jobs in India. PLUS managing director Noorizah Abdul Hamid said the proposals were submitted
in response to requests from the National Highway Authority of India. She said if the proposals qualify, PLUS
will then submit bids for the contracts. The National Highway Authority of India is expected to call for a tender
early next year and name the successful bidders in the first quarter of 2009. PLUS' maiden highway project
into India early this year was for upgrading the existing road of about 21.6km into a four-lane toll-road in

Association Of Banks: No Credit Crunch In Malaysia
The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) says there is no credit crunch in the country and that the banking sector remains strong and well capitalised despite the turmoil in the global financial markets. In a statement yesterday, ABM chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Hamidy Abdul Hafiz said: “It is business as usual and commercial banks are not putting any brakes on lending.” According to the ABM, unlike the liquidity crunch that was seizing some of the key developed markets such as the US, Britain and Europe, Malaysia had been relatively unaffected and liquidity level in the banking system was healthy. “As at end-August, loan-to-deposit ratio stood at 74.5% compared with the high 90% seen in 1997. Bursa Will Continue To Launch New Products
Bursa Malaysia Bhd will still carry out its plans to introduce new products and services despite a looming global recession, the stock exchange operator said yesterday. “Bursa Malaysia is excited about the plans we have in store to further grow its competitiveness through the introduction of attractive products, improvement of market access, and enhancement of infrastructures,” said chief executive officer Datuk Yusli Mohd Yusoff. Ho Hup: Low Fails To Get Re-Elected
Former managing director Datuk Low Tuck Choy failed yesterday to get re-elected as a director of Ho Hup
Construction Co Bhd, ending a 24-year relationship with the company’s board. “I have served the company for
24 years, 14 of which were as managing director,” he told reporters after the company AGM yesterday. Low
had been suspended as managing director of Ho Hup in late August for allegedly breaching his duties.

Our strategy is to wait until the smoke clears, so we can see where the world economy and its sectors are positioned before taking any action. There were those who made substantial money during the bad time. They did so by:
1) waiting for rallies and buying with a trading mind set,
2) waiting for big price declines and buying for the very long term.
3) selling short with a trading mentality.

Those investors who held cash and invested periodically after big price declines could have easily done much better than those who bought and held.

walaupaun adek dengan bangganya dapat meramal klci akan pegi 1050 pada masa ramalan atau meneka itu dibuat ianya dalam paras 1300. namun selepas ia mencececah ke paras tersebut 1050 adek terperanjat gila pada keesokan harinya klci menjunam keparas 960 . kini adek bingung lagi samada ia boleh masuk lagi ke tidak? dengan outlook yang tak berapa menarik seperti geopolitik dan subprime masasalah yang tak nampak kesudahan penghujung nya selesai maka kini adek dalam kebingungan lagi?

apa jadi sekiranya cakap abang betul ia jatuh ke 850 ? rugi dan malu lagi adek beli saham kat harga tinggi tapi kalo dia dah bottom kat 960 maka menyesal lak nanti? hai betul lah pening kepala?
kalo abang boleh menasihat adalah lebih baik kita beli bila momentum dah set in tak payah nak risau market bottom hanya sekadar we ride in the trend kan senang?

maka hari raya datang lagi , apa nak ditunggu ia tetap akan datang... kadang kadang ia datang 2 kali dalam setahun .kesian tengok orang melayu termasuk saya berpuasa... namun kerap dan saban tahun berpuasa tapi tak ada datang keseluruh kebaikan kepada kita kecuali lapar dan dahaga .apa tidaknya ahlak memalukan rasuah amat kuat , kuat penipu dan ego tinggi melangit dan tidak kah puasa itu mentarbiah seluruh umat islam agar dapat menzahirkan ahlak yang baik iaitu sabar tawaduk dan berperketi mulia tapi semua tak ada dan kalo ada pada mereka itu pun segelintir . alangkah baik saya mempunyai luhur budi pekerti.

The ringgit had kaput. The FM loves to see that as CI also kaput .They will wait and wait till they can buy at lower CI with Lower ringgit. With lower value of ringgit they can load up a lot of malaysian shares .To those muslim who had went to haj or umrah they are not happy as the rial arab saudi also appreciating in value .I can still recalled I could excange more than 120 but now its only 90 or may be less. the best way to do now IMO (or 5 sen opinion since 1 sen no more) is to wait and analyse what the big gun are doing

Or the next thing to do this ramadan time is to pray a lot so that God is kind to us and heavily showers us with ringgit when the next bull arrives

Until then pray terawikh 20 raakat not 8 raakaat and keep your fasting quality upgraded

When your hut's on fire…
The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for someone to rescue him. Every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. 'We saw your smoke signal,' they replied.
The Moral of This Story:
It's easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn't lose heart even in the midst of our pain and suffering. Remember that the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground, it just may be a smoke signal that precedes your rescue.

Sekiranya dulu ...debat antara AI dan SS maka debat itu meyakinkan pendengar menyebelahi fakta AI . AI berjaya menyampaikan hujah dan fakta dengan betul dan ini telah menambat hati pendengar untuk menyebelahi AI
Tapi debat kali ni KSK lebih menyampaikan fakta yang bernas dan berasas walaupun ianya ditembak tanpa semak oleh LGE
Sekiranaya diteliti dari sifat dan peribadi LGE lebih bersifat menyalahkan dan sifat tidak menerima fakta kerana beliau telah ada mindset segala yang lain tak betul termasuk bpr dan polis... ini adalah kerana bpr dan polis tak CAT....itu anggapan beliau.
fakta LGE berikan adalah sama diulang ulang dan egonya amat tinggi sekira dibanding dengan KSK maka KSK lebih merendah diri lagi lagi tawaduk

Kesian KSK walaupun beliau adalah seorang insan yang kuat bekerja tetapi kerana tekanan atasan beliau teperangkap antara dua delima.

Financial Daily today reported of a possibility of the company to be taken private by its parent Bank Islam
Malaysia as part of the group strategy to restructure its asset management and Islamic insurance
business, with possible acquisition price of between 2.0 and 2.5 times book value. As at 31 Mar, net asset
per share of Takaful Malaysia was RM1.95 while it net tangible asset was RM1.87 per share. The
Malaysia’s first Islamic insurance company made RM15.1m net profit on the back of RM761.0m revenue in
the 9 months ended 31 Mar 08, translating into EPS of 9.5 sen; in FY June 07, it made 13.8 sen EPS.
Since 30 Apr this year, the counter has appreciated by 32.9% to RM1.82, hitting a high of RM2.00 on 11
and 12 June. Its 3-m average daily volume is 0.147m shares only but high volume was registered over the
last 9 trading days with average daily volume of 0.814m shares during that period. Technically, immediate
support is at RM1.77 followed by RM1.60. Resistance on the weekly chart is at RM1.86, and if decisively
broken, the technical target is at RM2.40

counter has fallen 37% from a high of RM4.60 on 24 Jul 07. now ah,sentimen not good ppl , cautious consumer sentiment amid the recent petrol price since june 05 thusday 2008 hike rm2.70 from rm1.92.
Now everything up chicken rm7/kg ,rice up 100% so ppl keep money to buy food rather than go Genting Highlands to gamble to lose more money.
Fundamentally, company has a healthy balance sheet, backed by a net cash position of
RM3.16b or 54 sen per share and has a monopoly advantage in casino business. For the past 3 years, it traded at a PER band of 12.0x to 26.6x and it is now at 12.5x based on FY08 EPS forecast of 23.3 sen.
The valuation now is relatively cheap and the market may have over discounted the potential risk.

Perkenalan saya kepada lagenda ulung didalam dunia saham iaitu Jesse Livermoore bermula apabila saya telah membeli sebuah buku bertajuk "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator" oleh Edwin LeFevre. Buku ini adalah merupakan klasik yang amat digemari oleh semua pelabur saham didunia termasuk di malaysia.Kebanyakan pelabur mahu pun pemain saham mengakui bahawa beliau lah tokoh yang disegani hingga kini .Beliau dengan tepat telah dapat meramal bahawa Amerika akan mengalami kegawatan ekonomi dan dari percaturan ini beliau telah dapat memperolehi keuntungan melebehi usd100 juta hasil jualan yang beliau lakukan.

Hasil dari perkenalan pertama tersebut saya telah membaca dua buku lain yang mempunyai kaitan dengan lageda saham tersebut.Tajuk kedua buah buku tersebut adalah "Jesse Livermore: World's Greatest Stock Trader" dan "Trade Like Jesse Livermore", kedua ditulis oleh Richard Smitten.

Buku "Jesse Livermore: World's Greatest Stock Trader", adalah buku yang menarik untuk dibaca. Buku tersebut lebih menerangkan latar belakang dan biograpi kehidupan Jesse. Jesse dilahirkan pada tahun 1877 di Massachusetts dikalangan keluarga petani yang susah. Sejak kecil lagi beliau amat minat membaca dan minat membaca ini telah menjadikan beliau yang amat kreatif dengan mempunyai IQ yang tinggi.Semangat nya yang tinggi untuk keluar dari belenggu kemiskinan didalam kehidupan petani membuatkan beliau lari dari rumah apabila bapanya memberhentikan beliau dari sekolah.Pada waktu itu beliau berumur 14 tahun.Dengan berbekalkan cuma usd 5 saja diadalam saku beliau telah lari dari rumah dan berhijrah ke Boston .

Sebaik sampai di Boston beliau telah berehat dan terhenti di hadapan sebuah pejabat bernama Paine Webber. Dia amat terpikat dengan gelagat pelangan disitu dan tertarik keatas tape bergerak bagi penanda saham selain gelagat budak budak pejabat yang sibuk menulis dan mennghantar pergerakan harga diatas papan harga.Pada masa yang sama beliau terus berjumpa pengurus pejabat tersebut dan berjaya mendapat pekerjaan sebagai budak galeri .Beliau amat berminat dengan pekerjaan beliau dan beliau lah orang pertama setiap hari akan muncul orang pertama yang datang ke pejabat.Dengan bekerja sebagai “Budak Kapur” disitulah permulaan Jesse mempelajari selok belok dunia saham dan disitulah bermula ia menghadiri “kolej saham” yang di pelajarinya sendiri.Didalam hati beliau beliau yakin yang kemiskinan yang amat dirisaukan selama ini akan berakhir dan dunia saham ini lah merupakan alat beliau untuk menjadi kaya raya.

Untuk Jesse kali pertama membuat keuntungan yang berlipat ganda tinggi adalah pada tahun 1907 sebaik saja ekonomi Amerika mengalami keruntuhan.Keuntungan yang pertama ini tidak kekal lama dimana dia telah mengalami kekalahan namun beliau bangun semula dengan keuntungan yang berlipat kali ganda.

Jesse telah berkahwin dengan seorang wanita pertunjukan dan mendiami disebuah rumah agam di Long Island.Dengan mengunakan sebuah kapal yang berukuran 300 kaki beliau setiap hari berlayar berulang alek ke Wall Street.Kebijaksanaan beliau kini lebih menyerlah dan pada tahun 1929 sekali lagi Amerika mengalami kekawatan ekonomi beliau telah meramal dan menjual pendek (short selling) dan penjualan ini telah meraih keuntungan melebehi 100 juta untuk beliau.Kegemaran beliau meraih keuntungan melalui jualan pendek yakni ketika ekonomi Amerika hendak merudum inilah beliau digelar Plunger Boy dalam istilah melayu ialah “budak terjun menjunam” .

Jesse apabila mulai berurus niaga beliau berurusan dalam keadaan yang penuh rahsia .Tidak siapa dibenarkan untuk bercakap atau berbincang dengan beliau apabila pasaran dibuka .Pejabat nya di Fifth Avenue sentiasa dikawal rapi dan penoperasian nya adalah dirahsiakan.Tumpuan nya adalah untuk mengatasi Wall Street.Lubuk di hati nya matlamat nya yang utama adalah mendapatkan lantunan harga yang tinggi lebih dari mendapat sedikit anjakan kenaikan harga harian.

Livermore faham bahawa untuk berjaya didunia yang diceburinya ia perlu ada perancangan yang rapi dan perancangan itu hanya boleh menjelma dengan melaksanakan analisa yang berterusan .Dengan kerja keras saja lah segala usha nya akan berhasil.

Etika sanggup bekerja keras ini lah yang membezakan kita selama ini.Kita yang berkeinginan untuk mendapat kejayaan tetapi tidak mahu bekerja keras dan yang lebih menyedihkan lagi kita mahukan nya sekelip mata.Tidak seperti Livermoore kita menceburi bidang ini malangnya tumpuan dan kesungguhan tidak disertai dengan tindakan kita malahan ilmu dan pengalaman dibidang yang kita ceburi amat rendah berbanding dengan beliau dari sejak berumur 14 tahun telah berkecimpong dengan dunia saham.

Tidak seperti zaman Livermore dahulu yang amat berkurang dengan peralatan canggih yang pelabur saham kini miliki sekarang seperti komputer dan skrin lcd komputer yang berganda dan dengan seribu satu jenis chart yang mempunyai seribu satu jenis teknikal indikator namun pelabur kini amat sukar menandingi kebolehan beliau yang serba berkurangan pada waktu itu.Secara tak langsung keujudan teknologi kini telah memendekan pandangan kita untuk mendapat keuntungan yang berganda kerana komputer secara tak langsung telah mengajar dan mendidik kita menjadi tak sabar bagi meraih keuntungan yang lebih berganda.

Pelabur kini yang tidak bervisi jauh hanya puas dengan sedikit keuntungan yang diperolehi untuk digembargemburkan .Mereka berbanga untuk digelar guru saham dikalangan mereka .Natijahnya mereka terlupa maksud sebenar mengapa mereka melabur iaitu mendapat keuntungan dan sentiasa menang dalam jangkaan pelaburan mereka.

Livermore berfikiran jauh sentiasa menilai situasi semasa dan bergerak secara waspada dan berhati hati.Sentiasa melabur kecilan dahulu untuk menguji keaadaan semasa dan apabila semua faktor memihak kepada beliau maka beliau akan melabur secara besar besaran.Untuk tindakan nekad ini bukan dibuat tanpa membuat sebarang kajian risiko dan tanpa melaksanakan kerjarumah beliau.Beliau amat sabar bagi menantikan peluang yang terbaik sebelum membeli atau menjual.Beliau akan menunggu dan sabar menanti bagi mendapatkan masa yang terbaik bagi membeli saham yang beliau ikuti.Ciri ciri seperti kerja keras dan kesabaran inilah yang patut dicontohi bagi pelabur baru sekiranya mereka ingin mendapatkan kemenangan didalam permainan ini.Malang nya kita selalu melabur mengikut emosi dan mendengar tips yang mudah kerana ia tidak memerlukan kerja rumah dan perancangan yang rapi.

"Harga baru tertinggi adalah penting bagi untuk masa membeli..Harga tertinggi yang baru boleh bermaksud bahawa saham tersebut telah memecah penawaran oleh stok tersebut dan merobek garis resistence untuk bergerak keatas.Kebanyakan dari kita apabila melihat harga saham telah telah memecah kepada harga tertinggi merelka akan menjualnya dan mencari saham lain yang harga rendah." Kaedah ini amat berbeza dengan strategi yang digunapakai oleh Jesse.

Sekali lagi Jessse telah menasihati kita agar berwaspada menggunakan perkataan bullish atau bearish..Ini adalah disebabkan kedua perkatan ini akan terpahat diminda kita dan tindakan kita akan mempengaruhi apa yang minda kita fikirkan.Beliau menasihatkan menggunakan perkataan tren menaik atau tren menurun adalah lebih wajar ,Dengan perkatan mudah ini otak kita tidak akan terpahat sampai bebila untuk sentiasa berfikir bahawa market akan sentiasa naik, bila perkataan bullish selalu digunakan dan sebaliknya.Apila ditanya orang berkaitan arah tuju pasaran semasa maka ucapkanlah garis resistence yang paling lemah kini adalah menaik atau menurun untuk masa kini. (Ibid., page 283)

Falsafah beliau untuk ini adalah untuk kita berhati apabila berkata kerana ia akan mempengaruhi tidakan kita apabila otak kita telah di “brain wash” dengan ulangan perkatan yang sentiasa kita sebut.

"Saham pada lazimnya tidak terlalu tinggi untuk kita mula membeli dan tidak pula rendah untuk kita mulai menjual pendek”(Ibid., page 274)

"Waspadalah keaadaan stok pemimpin saham (kounter blue chip) kerana saham yang berwajaran demikian lah membantu menaikan pasaran saham secara am.Apabila saham berwajaran pemimpin ini mulai tidak menunjukan membuat sebarang kenaikan harga tertingi ini penunjuk awal bahawa pasaran saham akan membuat belokan “U”kepada tren yang terbentuk.Sekiranya pemimpin saham ini jatuh selalunya seluruh pasaran saham akan ikut jatuh." (Ibid., page 276)

Secara am nya sekiranya anda ingin berjaya dalam pasaran saham anda perlu mencontohi mereka yanfg berjaya dalam pasaran saham.Untuk anda yang berminat mencontohi Livermore anda perlu melakukan satu pekara penting ia itubekerjakeras.Rajin dan sentiasa menganalisa pasaran .Buku berjudul "Trade Like Jesse Livermore" telah mendetailkan bagaimana Jesse menyediakan perancangan beliau sebelum pasaran saham bermula bagaimana ia bekerja dan cara beliau bekerja iatu secara berahsia.Ini amat penting sekiranya beliau gerak secara semua orang tahu maka amat sukar beliau untuk berfikir sendiri dan beliau sendiri akan terpengaruh dengan hujah dan pendapat awam.Buku ini juga memberi nasihat khusus untuk pelabur agar sentiasa memilih saham yang berwajran pemimpin selain memahami untuk bagaimana memahami industri yang patut kita membeli selain mengajar bagaimana menilai pergerakan harga selain pembentukan paten yang spesifik .Kaedah titek pivot juga di terangakan selain mempelajari kepentingan volume dan bagaimana menggunakan garisan uptren dan garisan downtren dan kaedah membeli dan menjual melalui titek break out.

My first introduction to the life of Jesse Livermore was in 2000 when I bought a copy of the book "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator" by Edwin LeFevre. This book is a beloved classic. Many traders consider Jesse Livermore to be the greatest stock trader that ever lived. He made over $100 million as America headed into the Depression.

My 2nd introduction to the life of this legendary speculator was by reading two books: "Jesse Livermore: World's Greatest Stock Trader" and "Trade Like Jesse Livermore", both written by Richard Smitten.

The book, "Jesse Livermore: World's Greatest Stock Trader", is a fun book to read. The book is a biography of Jesse's life. Jesse was born in 1877 in Massachusetts to poor farmers. As a boy he devoured books, magazines and newspapers, which expanded his imagination and high intelligence. He wanted to escape the punishing life of a poor farmer. At age fourteen his father yanked him from school and was told he would now work full-time on the farm. Within weeks he ran away with $5 in his pocket to seek his fortune in Boston.

Upon his arrival in Boston he stopped outside the Paine Webber offices. He was fascinated with the customers, ticker tape clicking, and gallery boys posting prices on chalkboards. He found the manager, asked for a job and was hired to be a gallery boy. He loved it. Jesse was always the first one to the office. Being a chalk boy was his enrollment in the Stock Market College. He reveled in everything about the job and the markets. He knew that someday he would be a rich man.

Jesse made a fortune in the crash of 1907, which he later lost, only to make and lose fortunes several more times. He married a beautiful showgirl and they lived on Long Island in a magnificent mansion. His 300 foot yacht ferried him to Wall Street each morning. He sold the market short before the crash of 1929 and entered the Depression with more than $100 million in cash.

Jesse traded in absolute secrecy. No one was allowed to speak to him when the markets were open. His office on Fifth Avenue was highly secure and secretive. His exhilaration was in beating the Street. He knew that big money was made in big swings with big positions, and his trading style earned him the nickname of "Boy Plunger". Livermore developed a plan, a strategy based on hard work and never ending analysis. He believed there is only one way to achieve success in speculation -- through hard work and persistently hard work.

Livermore's aptitude for persistent hard work is probably the primary characteristic of what make him the legendary trader till today. Many traders have characteristics that are exactly the opposite of Livermore's.

Not like Livermore’s yesteryear, today's traders are armed with computers and multiple monitors that display dozens of charts. These charts are heavily dressed with complex studies, visual effects, alerts and automated trading systems. If their real-time feed has even a few seconds of lag time, today's traders feel cheated out of a better fill price. Technology has shortened the horizon of their vision, and the duration of their patience. Traders have become impatient scalpers, pacified with a diet of RM100 successes. Today's traders crave instant success and want an adrenalin rush every day. And as a result, they trade away what they want most (big money) for what they want right now (a winning trade).

Trader's thrive on admiration and kudos from other traders. If a trader has a hot streak, he is elevated by his peers to the status of mentor and others surrender independent thinking and fall into lock-step with the mentor's leadership.

Livermore looked ahead, evaluated the general conditions, moved prudently, tested first with a small position, and plunged only after he was convinced that all factors were in his favor. He did his homework. He was patient, and waited until the big swing came along. He waited for his judgment to be confirmed. Unfortunately, these characteristics and behaviors do not describe today's typical trader.

"New highs are very important for timing. A new all-time high can mean that the stock has broken through the overhead supply of stock and the line of least resistance will be strongly upward. Many people, when they see that a stock has made a new high, sell it immediately, then go to look for a cheaper stock." (Jesse Livermore: World's Greatest Stock Trader, page 276)

Here are a few more words of wisdom that seem appropriate to have in mind at this time. "Do not use the words 'Bullish' or 'Bearish'. These words fix a firm market-direction in the mind for an extended period of time. Instead use 'Upward Trend' and 'Downward Trend' when asked the direction you think the market is headed. Simply say: 'The line of least resistance is either upward, or downward at this time." (Ibid., page 283)

"Stocks are never too high to begin buying or too low to begin selling short." (Ibid., page 274)

"Watch the market leaders, the stocks that have led the charge upward in a bull market. When these stocks falter or fail to make new highs it is often a signal that the market is turning. As the leaders go, so goes the entire market." (Ibid., page 276)

If you want to trade like Jesse Livermore, you will have to do the 'hard work'. The book "Trade Like Jesse Livermore" has considerable detail on how Jesse would prepare for his trading day, how he handled the media and news, how he did his own thinking and worked in secret. The book gives specific advice in trading only the leaders, understanding industry groups and their movements, and shows the specific patterns Livermore used such as the Reversal Pivotal Point. This book teaches about the importance of volume, and how to use trend lines and break-outs.

Some readers of this article will act on the advice to do 'hard work'. Others feel they are already working hard, when in reality, they are just expressing they have found it is hard to be a successful trader.

I am guilty of not doing the 'hard work' like Jesse Livermore. I am still enrolled in the Stock Market College. Hopefully we are all enrolled and not skipping class or the homework assignments. There is so much yet to learn even after 20 years.
